The Paramount Ruler of Calabar Municipality, Cross River State, and Grand Patron of the Qua Nation, Ndidem Patrick Inok Oqua Agbo V, has commended the Federal Government for bringing succour to the people of the state with the completion of the 6.55km Atimbo-Akpabuyo Road.

Agbo, who made the remark at the recent commissioning of the road, which was in a horrible state over the years, noted that the rehabilitation was one of the many projects completed by the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs in Cross River State, and other states in the Niger Delta region.

“We appreciate the Federal Government of Nigeria, which through the supervision of the Federal Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, linked Calabar to Bakassi with a good road network. This has helped farmers to move their produce easily to Calabar, the state capital, thereby facilitating economic prosperity,” the monarch stated.

He also commended the Minister for Niger Delta Affairs, Pastor Usani Uguru Usani for making sure that the job was contracted and successfully executed. He, however, called on the ministry to look into internal roads in the communities.

Shortly before commissioning the road, the minister said the rehabilitation was necessitated by the plight of the people, who spent long hours trying to move goods from Bakassi to Calabar in the past. Usani, who said the Federal Government alone would not be able to meet all the needs of the people, added that it was the responsibility of states and local governments to complement its efforts by constructing internal roads in various communities.

Speaking earlier, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, Aliyu Aminu Bisalla, represented by the Director, Community Development and Education in the Ministry, Mrs. Lauren Braide, commended the cooperation of all the stakeholders for supporting the Federal Government in executing the project in good time.

Similarly, while commissioning a Cottage Hospital built and equipped by the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs, at Assiga Community in Yakurr Local Council, Usani noted that siting the project in Assiga was aimed at bringing medicare closer to the people.

One of the elders who spoke on behalf of the community, Elder Ogban Usang, saild: “We the people of Assiga Community are grateful to witness the commissioning of this noble health centre. When the work started, we heaved a sigh of relieve. This health centre will serve the teeming population of not only Assiga Community, but the entire Yakurr Local Government and beyond. “We thank the Federal Government and Pastor Usani Uguru Usani for remembering the people in this part of the country, by putting this project in place,” he stressed.
