NDE flags-off gap training

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has flagged-off a training workshop for 45 beneficiaries of Graduates Attachment Programme (GAP) in Umuzuta, Umuahia South Local Government Area Abia State.

The National Directorate of Employment (NDE), has flagged-off a training workshop for 45 beneficiaries of Graduates Attachment Programme (GAP) in Umuzuta, Umuahia South Local Government Area Abia State.

Addressing the trainees, the NDE Acting Director General, Mr. Kunle Obayan said the training, organised by the NDE Special Public Works Department is designed to provide the beneficiaries skills and personal attributes, as part of the innovations not just by SPW Department, but the entire NDE to be in tune with evolving technological advancement and meeting with current realities.

Represented by the state NDE Coordinator, Lady Onyebuchi Ojei, the acting DG said the training will also prepare the beneficiaries for proactive and productive performance in carrying out their assignment in the various places of attachment that may or would lead not only to their retainment, but discover themselves for self employment.

He assured that NDE will continue to strive in this direction to address the present unemployment situation in the country, despite the dwindling resources.

According to him, all the schemes of the NDE are currently being modified and modernised.

In his remarks, head of the state NDE, Job Center, Mrs. Stella Chukwuekezie told the trainees to see the one year GAP training as one that could prepare them for employment thereafter.

Representative of the SPW Department, Abuja, Mr. Anthony Okum, who said the training will also provide them for skills acquisition and transient jobs, counseled them not look at the financial benefits.

Spokesperson of the Trainees, Mr. Chimaobi Ubah, a Mathematics graduate of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike, Umuahia, thanked the NDE for selecting them among the large number of applicants and pledged to abide by the rules and regulations.
