No matter what
Text: Psalm 13:1-6
Life is full of so many ups and downs, and one can never know what life would throw up at any point in time. I must confess that I have seen life throwing at good people situations that I believe such people do not deserve. On the other hand, I have also seen life throwing at bad people good things I think they do not deserve. But life is not controlled by what I think, but what the Almighty ordained and sometimes permitted for a purpose best known to Him. If you feel you have suffered any loss suddenly, I believe yours can’t be as much as that of Job, nor as sudden as his. There are records of people in the Bible who at a point in time in their lives suffered one kind of loss or the other. But the good news is that they came out of it. That is why I also pray for anyone reading this today who has suffered any loss, be it money, job, privilege, position, relationship, favour, etc, that you also will come out of it in Jesus name. Amen.
(A) David’s Personal Experience – Psa. 13:1-4. A quick look at our periscope reveals to us that good people can also experience momentary loss/persecution. If David, a man after God’s own heart went through it, it could happen to anyone, no matter how pious or righteous you are. David’s case was so tough that he thought God had forgotten him and hidden His face from him. It was a daily sorrow that made his enemies felt they had prevailed over him. (2,4) It was so tough that he was already contemplating death. Four times in verses 1 and 2, David who felt forgotten, forsaken, defeated and he lamented “how long?” In verse two, he asked, “how long must I wrestle with my thoughts. (NIV) One fact I discover here is that at such moment of life, it is okay to ask questions. Just ensure you are asking the right questions.
(B) What You Must Not Lose
While I was reading this scripture some weeks back, and ruminating over David’s experience during Sauline persecution, what the Lord said to me was so thrilling and that forms the topic of this message, “NO MATTER WHAT.” He said to me, no matter what you lose, there are three things you must not lose. If you don’t lose these three, you shall still move forward. I then realised that what sting many people today is not the weight of their problems, but what they dropped or absorbed during the loss. From David’s experience, there are three things you must not lose, no matter what other things you lose. They are:
• Don’t lose your Prayer/Comminication.3-4. Prayer communication is very essential, no matter what. If you lose your communication, you lose your communion. If you lose your prayer, you lose your power.
• Don’t Lose your Trust-5. Watch your heart. Believe that your God is still on the throne and able to move you forward. NIV says, “I trust in your unfailing love.” If you lose your trust, you lose your thrust, ability to move forward.
• Don’t lose your Song/Worship-6. Don’t lose your service or dedication to the Lord or right living. If you lose your song, you lose your joy, your strength.
