No more brambles – Part 2

Rev. Theodore Effiong

Eccl. 10:5-7: “There is an evil which I have seen under the sun, as an error which proceedeth from the ruler. Folly is set in great dignity, and the rich sit in low place. I have seen servants upon horses, and princes walking as servants upon the earth.” (KJV)

The people who are not supposed to sit in positions of authority are the ones there. And the real kings, the people that God has ordained for kingship and ruler-ship, are trekking on the road. And when Mr. Bramble comes with all his escorts, the kings jump into the gutter, to make room for Mr. Bramble. Do you know the problem we had here? The problem we had was the Christianity of the 1970’s, which came with the song, “Take the whole world and give me Jesus.” And we quoted 2 Cor. 6:14-17, as our authority and says, “…Come out from amongst them, be ye separate…touch not the unclean thing…”

And so, we withdrew from politics, saying we will never participate. We even call it “dirty politics.” People of God, do you know that whoever is on the seat of power stamps policies and controls the wealth of the state or the wealth of the nation as the case may be? Are you aware that fifty percent of the whole wealth of the earth is in the hands of only sixty-two men? Think about it. They say Nigeria’s population is going to two hundred million. Do you know that out of that population, only about one million are very wealthy? The remaining 191 million people or thereabout are struggling, meaning less than one percent of the people in this country are controlling the other ninety nine percent. Why? Because the real people who are supposed to sit in positions of authority are not there. I want to prophesy, there is a change.

Options For The Church
We have three options. The first option is SEPERATION. “I will never have anything to do with politics.” The second option is Integration. This is where many of our brethren who are already involved have integrated. Integration means you compromise. It also means you enter the political system and you allow the system to swallow you. The third option is TRANSFORMATION. This is where you will enter the system and Heaven shall use you to change the system, to transform the system. I see a better Nigeria. When the correct man is in power, the citizenry prospers. The problem we are facing now is that brambles are everywhere.

God is anointing and commissioning you to go into the world of politics, the Babylonian system, because of the sanctifying power of God upon your life. You shall not be corrupted by the system, but you shall bless and change the system.

That is what Jesus did. He came into the world and mixed with tax collectors, publicans who were drunkards, prostitutes and single women. Do you know one of the problems of the church? We are so separated that we cannot affect our generation. But Jesus didn’t behave like some of us. He mingled and penetrated the system. Have you seen Jesus talking to the woman of Samaria? And that woman was a free woman. And in those days, it was a taboo for the Jews to mix with the Samaritans. And for a man to talk to a woman mid-day! But Jesus broke all those protocols. He entered the system; He was talking with a free woman by the time the disciples came back. I can see Peter exclaiming in regrets, saying “it seems Jesus has fallen and backslidden.” Jesus mingled but He did not compromise. The greatest problem of the church today is that though it is growing in size, growing in population, growing in attendance, but she is reducing in influence. Do you know that as you are gathering in your church service this Sunday morning, if you go round the street of your locality, you’ll discover that the place is empty? Why? Everybody is in the church. If eighty five percent of the people in the society are in church, especially in southern part of Nigeria, why is it that they don’t have a voice in the government? This is because the church people, who are represented by the vine, the olive tree and the fig tree, have all withdrawn from politics.
