Oba Akinruntan

With due respect and humility, the entire people of Ugbo Kingdom wish to direct your attention to an error in your publication of November 19, 2017 titled: “Oba Akinruntan Tells Obas To Research Their Genealogy” and require an urgent correction. We will appreciate if such correction assumes the same prominence as the original version of the publication.

Paragraphs 2 and 3 should be totally removed because they are of no relevance to the article.

In paragraph 5 lines 2 and 3, you put the arrival of Obamakin Osangangan in Ode-Ugbo from the ancient Ile-Ife at “in the early 17th Century.” This error contradicts the age-long historical fact that Obamakin Osangangan actually arrived in Ode-Ugbo from the ancient Ile-Ife “several centuries ago” and not “in the early 17th Century” as published.

Also in paragraph 6, where you stated that guests were pleasantly surprised to discover that the two huts built by Oronmakin in the quiet coastal settlement are not only standing, but are still preserved. These lines should either be removed or rephrased as “the design of the hut built by Orunmakin upon arrival at the ancient coastal town of Ode-Ugbo is still being maintained by the Ilaje-Ugbo till date.”

The consequence of this error is grave to the historical significance of the people of Ugbo in the history of Yoruba people.

While we await your necessary action, please accept the assurances of our highest regards for your person.
