Key Verse: Matthew 8:26, “But He said to them, “Why are you fearful, O you of little faith?” Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.” (NKJV)

Jesus has absolute power over every natural opposition and He is the Lord of storms. As Jesus and His disciples were in a boat, a furious storm arose and threatened to put their lives in jeopardy, but Jesus was asleep. The disciples woke Him up and cried out to Him saying, “Lord, save us. We’re going to drown.” In the midst of the storm, Jesus asked His disciples, “why are you fearful O you of little faith?” Storms of life will come to test your faith in Christ and it is a matter of your faith in Christ.

It is the will of God that you should cast every care on Him and to refer to Him whatever perplexes you. A beautiful hymn we sing have these wordings, “How sweet, my Saviour, to repose on thine almighty power! To feel thy strength upholding me through every trying hour” and the chorus says, “Casting all your care upon Him, for He careth, He careth for you.” When the days are weary, the long nights dreary, you should know that our Saviour cares.

Jesus arose in the midst of the raging storm and rebuked the winds and the sea and there was not just calm, there was a great calm. That is what God will do in your life today. Do not fear the forces of darkness. Fear not because the Lord Who rebuked the winds and the waves on that day is still rebuking them today. That is the essence of Hebrews 13:8, Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and today and forever more. He does not change because He cannot change. His love for us is unabated, His power is unabated, His desire to save is unabated, and a hymn says, “Jesus is mighty to save”.

The winds and the waves obey His voice and we got to know that the winds and the waves have ears and can hear (Mathew 8:27). You and I as children of God can speak to our mountain as Jesus said we should do. Speak to your mountain, speak to that problem, speak to that difficulty, by faith in Christ it will give way. We were enjoying a beautiful relationship with the Master and suddenly, the devil came as if to say he would overcome the master. No, he can’t, never, he can’t and he knows he can’t.

Jesus rebuked the wind and the waves and there was a great calm. All the men marvelled and said, what manner of man is this; even the winds and the waves obey him? This is to encourage our faith. On the mountains, in the valleys, on the land and in the sea, the Lord is in charge, the Lord is our portion and we will continue to rejoice in the name of our God wherever we are.

How do we overcome the storms of life? We just hold unto Jesus and we proclaim our victory by faith. I John 5:4, this is the victory that has overcome the world, our faith in Christ. This is the victory that has overcome, that no matter how the devil is throwing in all the waves into the boat, no matter how it appears as if the boat of your life will sink, be rest assured that the boat of your life will never and can never sink, if Jesus is in that boat.
