Text: Malachi 2: 1–9

We understand that God brought Levites into the covenant of life and peace because they are part of people’s sin; repented genuinely when confronted, and further took steps that averted God’s wrath among His people. The covenant, however, was not maintained because the Levites compromised their essence. If God will raise another uncompromising generation of Levites among us, they must regain and retain their essence.

Levites are Preservers (Mal.2:6-7)
Every culture, tribe, and nation always want to preserve their heritage. God desires that the Levites will preserve the good heritage of the Church. Levites are messengers of the Lord and are trusted with the sacred heritage of the law and knowledge. In preserving it, they just didn’t keep but did everything possible to pass it on to their following generation unabated. But the concern today is, “are we preserving the faith once entrusted to the saints?” Where is the good heritage of Christian faith handed over to us, by our fathers? Oh Lord, raise for us ancient men and women who will preserve the ancient standards of Christian faith.

Levites are Pacesetters (Mal.2:6)
Preservers of good heritage live by that heritage. The Levites lived good and righteous lives (NLT). They are models; they demonstrated how to live according to God’s own law. They avoided lying and shunned cheating; they walked uprightly with and before God, and their noble position was maintained by the royal law. We need such men again in our days that will set the pace by living what they teach.

Levites are Transformers (Mal.2:6)
Levites were active agents of transformation. Their life’s treasure, commanding lifestyle, and instructive teaching brought about a drastic turnaround. Levites “turned many from lives of sin.” They were mandated to transform lives and were well equipped to do so. When placed in a church, community, organisation, town, or nation, be sure that no matter how messy the situation before their arrival, with time they will transform lives and the messy situation.

Conclusion
We are clamouring for another brand of Levites because God holds this charge against the former; “But you have turned from the way and by your teaching have caused many to stumble. You have corrupted the covenant of Levi.” (vs.8 NIV/NKJV) The leading priests, apex leaders, and all covenant family members were accused of corrupting the sacred law and covenant – we can’t preserve this adulterated faith! We are no longer pacesetters; we have turned from the way! We are no longer transforming agents – our teaching is causing more harm than good. Oh Lord, raise for us another Levite generation! May He find you worthy. Amen.
