Text: Proverbs 22:28
Holiness and purity are ancient landmark set by God Himself. It is the standard of heaven and the nature of God as well. No one is excused or permitted to shift or remove the standard of holiness laid down by the Almighty God. Unfortunately, it is common to see preachers and their congregation compromise the standard of holiness without recourse to the repercussions. In fact, they see holiness as an archaic lifestyle.

The Ephesians church is an example of a church that removed an ancient landmark. They flagrantly threw away holiness; they compromised the standard of God’s holiness by their lifestyle. The church at Pergamos is also another good example of a church that hated righteousness and embraced strange doctrine of Balaam that left the way of God.

The church at Thyatira is a church given to immorality. The Lord gave them opportunity to repent but they refused. They made converts of unrighteousness for themselves and lead their followers astray. They give titles and appellations to themselves. This church allows immorality to thrive in the temple of God. Their preachers are promoters of all sorts of immoral acts.

The church at Sardis signified a dead church. These are churches where their preachers concentrate in praying for wicked politicians. They adjudged the progress in their ministries based on the numbers of politicians and wealthy people they have in their churches. This church has pulled down the ancient landmark and built its own.

The church of Laodicea is another church that has left the ancient landmark. They are lukewarm churches that do not care about their spiritual lives. They pursue money at the expense of righteousness. They prefer fame to holiness. This church lacked all the spiritual virtues. They are blind, naked and wretched yet, they know it not.

The churches above represent the conditions of today’s churches. They are dead but thought they are alive. They do not love holiness. They do everything within their power to fight against God’s Word, when they are supposed to protect It. They opposed the truth and the defenders of the truth. They tampered with holiness, thereby distorting the ancient landmark.

Holiness is the image of believers. Holiness is a possibility! It is the life of Christ imparted on saints. Ordinarily, there should be no struggle to live a holy life because the Lord has given believers the grace to live a holy life. Holiness is our identity as a church in Kingdom Power. It is our identity and lifestyle as lovers of God. It is our language and pattern of life. Holiness is the ancient landmark that must always be protected in the church. There must be a deliberate decision to live a holy life. We must fight to defend the cause of holiness at all times.

We must have nothing to do with anybody that negates holiness. This is because holiness is life and security. If holiness is lost, security is gone and such person will be exposed to defeats and the enemy’s attacks. Holiness is a protection and a defence to believers.

In marriage, holiness should be the bedrock. No one should marry a partner that does not love holiness. In fact, it is better to remain single than to marry an unholy partner. It is better to say no to a contract that will take holiness from you. There should be no compromise in this regard. Holiness is a costly virtue that must be preserved by all means. Do not sell it for any price to avoid regret.
