Considering the importance of traditional institutions in ensuring peace and stability in communities, the Niger State Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Sani Bello has charged them to remain vigilant for further maintenance of peace and to curtail acts capable of breaking law and order in the country.

While stressing the need for caution and vigilance on the part of the royal fathers, to help fish out questionable characters in the society, the governor wants traditional rulers to be more interested in what happens in their communities.

Bello, who made the appeal while presenting staff of office to the 17th Emir of Borgu, Barrister Muhammed Sani Haliru Dantoro, Kitoro IV in New Bussa, Borgu Local Government area of the state, tasked them to remain as security watchdogs in their domain and by extension the state.

“You must avoid any criminal connivance, as this is capable of running down any leader,” the governor advised royal fathers. I am commending you for the support I have been receiving from state council of traditional rulers. I want the new Emir to extend same.”

In a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Jibrin Baba Ndace, the governor also urged the Emir to bring his wealth of experience to bear in positioning his Emirate for greatness.

The new monarch promised to be fair to all his subjects and called on them to come up with meaningful ideas on how to move the Emirate forward.

The royal father whose late father was a former Senator during the botched third republic, called on political leaders in the country to bury their differences for the development, progress and unity of the country.
