Whereas across Nigeria, all cultures value old age and celebrate it, officialdom apparently views it otherwise. For the greater part of the last two decades, it seemed that old age is a curse, from the prism of officialdom.

Increasingly, Nigeria may have started a gradual return to the old regional framework upon which the country gained independence. This is more so with the rising stridency of voices from the regional blocks that not only make input to the national discourse but vehemently act as opposition to the centrist government in Abuja.

We cannot go back to the 1960s or pre 1960s arrangement. It is definitely not in the best interest of the minorities in the various parts of the country.
