The drug, called AQ-13, was able to clear the parasite responsible for the disease within a week, matching the effectiveness of the most widely used treatment regimen.

Malaria still remains a disease of global concern, even as progress is being recorded. Current malaria estimates show that an estimated 212 million cases of malaria occurred globally in 2015, with 90 per cent of these cases occurring in Africa.
