Some years back an official of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) claimed that a mysterious snake had swallowed millions in cash, which was in her custody. Although that bizarre claim has since become part of the Nigerian folklore of corruption and abuse of public office, it also demonstrates how desperate, evasive and flippant corrupt officials can become when caught in the act.
