About 48 hours after the petrol tanker accident resulted in a fire disaster at Upper Iweka and Ochanja areas of Onitsha, another petrol tanker caused yet more damage early on Friday morning in Onitsha.

A woman and her baby were burnt to death while more than 40 buildings were razed in a tanker explosion at Upper Iweka area of Onitsha, Anambra State. Over 500 lock-up shops were also gutted by the fire along with the Iweka street market leading to Ochanja and Menax markets.

Not fewer than six buildings and shops were burnt on Wednesday at Upper Iweka, on Onitsha/Awka Road in Onitsha, after a 33,000 litre Diesel tanker fell and caught fire. The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), Anambra Command, Mr Andrew Kumapayi, confirmed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Awka.
