The Nigerian sports industry is an integral part of the nation’s economy and cultural heritage. Unfortunately, despite the fact that the country has produced world-renowned sports legends, who have brought pride to Nigeria on the global stage, the industry is still largely plagued by myriad of problems. The list is endless; from insufficient funding for sports development, lack of direct support from government, poor welfare package for both active and retired sportsmen/women, scarcity of qualified coaches, high rate of unskilled and unqualified coaches, lack of adequate sports infrastructures, poor maintenance of sports facilities, lack of investment in sports infrastructure development, to inadequate sports technology and equipment.
