Huawei Nigeria has reiterated its commitment to developing digital talent and strengthening Nigeria’s technology ecosystem as it hosted the 2025 Huawei Abuja Job Fair, alongside the 9th Huawei ICT Competition Global Awards and the launch of the 10th edition of the competition.

Speaking at the event, Managing Director of Huawei Nigeria Enterprise Business Group, Terrens Wu, said the initiative underscores the company’s long-term goal of producing a skilled ICT workforce for Nigeria and the broader African region.

“Over the past nine editions, we have seen how this platform transforms potential into real skill, ambition into achievement, and students into industry-ready professionals,” Wu said, while launching the 10th edition of the competition. He added that participants would engage with technologies such as 5G, Artificial Intelligence, Cloud Computing, and the Internet of Things.

Wu also highlighted the importance of linking graduates with career opportunities. “The previous Job Fair showed a clear hunger for connection between skilled graduates and the companies driving our digital economy. We are delighted to welcome even more leading partners this year,” he said.

Representing the National Universities Commission (NUC), Mohammed Farouk commended Huawei for its sustained support of Nigerian universities. “Huawei has maintained a long-standing relationship with the Nigerian university system, supporting digital infrastructure and skills development over the years. The least we can do as part of government is to further encourage what they are doing,” he said.

The Executive Secretary of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE), Professor Idris Bugaje, called on Huawei to expand support for Nigerian youths. “Nigeria is Africa. Whatever you want to give Africa, please give it to Nigeria,” he said, pointing to the large turnout of students as evidence of the country’s talent pool.

Senior Public Relations Manager at Huawei Nigeria, Dr. Oyin Abiola, detailed the company’s role in ICT innovation, noting that over 55% of Huawei’s 207,000 global employees work in research and development. She also highlighted the company’s investments in initiatives like the Seeds for the Future program and Huawei ICT Academy, which now operates in over 190 Nigerian institutions.

A similar job fair was held in Lagos on August 8 at Yaba College of Technology. Huawei’s Senior Human Resources Manager, Juliet Emeronye, said the Lagos event focused on final-year students, NYSC members, and early-career professionals, attracting about 1,000 registrants. “All attendees on-site were interviewed by Huawei’s technical team, and top-performing candidates were shortlisted for recruitment consideration,” she said.

The 2025 job fairs and ICT competition, Huawei said, aim to prepare Nigerian students and graduates for global ICT opportunities while connecting them with potential employers.
