New Horizons builds Bell Varsity’s IT centre to empower students

• Says 60% current skills obsolete in 7 years

Global Information Technology (IT) training organisation in Nigeria, New Horizons, has successfully built and delivered a multi-million naira Information and Communication Technology (ICT) Centre for Bells University, Otta, Ogun State.

The commissioning of the project was sequel to a strategic partnership on modern IT skills acquisition for students of the university school, which resulted in the building of 150-seater capacity IT training centre.

To be called New Horizons/Bells ICT Empowerment Centre, the centre will provide the students of the university future-ready IT skills before graduation in different international IT and e-business certifications and programmes such as Cisco, Microsoft, Android, Java, Security, among others.

Speaking at the commissioning of the ICT project domiciled in the Philip Emeaguali Studio of the Bells University ICT Resource Centre in Otta, Managing Director of New Horizons, Tim Akano, said the Bells University IT project joins the list of 15 other universities and 150 secondary schools where New Horizons has built ICT centres, all aimed at preparing the students for ongoing global digital revolution.

As IT training organisation reputed for having a long, unbroken track record of working with education; institutions in the country, Akano said New Horizons is set to infuse new skills in the Nigerian youths in order to effectively prepare them for the future.

According to him, 60 per cent of the skills that people have today will become obsolete in the next seven years; necessitating the need to expose students to globally relevant digital skills that will make them relevant after obtain their Degrees certificates as technology students.

Earlier, the Vice Chancellor of Bells University, Prof. Professor Jeremiah Ojediran, commended New Horizon for its global vision towards instilling future-ready IT skills in the students, saying that as the first private university of technology in the country, the varsity was excited over the partnership.

“The seed being planted today is on fertile land as we are a university of technology ourselves and it will germinate and bear sweet fruits for the development of Nigeria, African continent and the world.”

“It is our belief that apart from the B.Tech certificate, the New Horizons has provided the platforms for the students to get other certifications. So, the vision of the varsity is anchored on knowledge, self-actualization and employment generation after school and we are happy New Horizon’s IT project keyed into this vision.”
