As Nigerians increasingly rely on digital platforms for everyday payments and transfers, concerns about account security have grown, particularly when phones are lost or accounts are accessed without the owner’s knowledge.
PalmPay has introduced NightGuard, a feature that adds an extra verification step to transfers made during hours selected by customers.
Available through the platform’s Security Center, NightGuard allows users to set a protection window between 11:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Transfers attempted during the selected period require additional verification before they can be completed.
Head of Marketing, PalmPay Nigeria, Femi Hanson, said the feature was designed to address situations in which customers may be less likely to notice unusual activity on their accounts.
“While fraud can happen at any time, there are situations where a compromised or lost phone can create additional risks at night. Giving customers more control over when additional verification is required can provide another layer of protection,” Hanson said.
The feature comes amid broader concerns about digital payment risks, including scams, impersonation and attempts to obtain customers’ personal or financial information.
PalmPay said customer education remains part of its approach to digital security, alongside the controls available through its Security Centre.
