As Nigeria joined the international community to mark World Sustainable Transport Day on November 26, 2023, computer science and information-systems specialist, Blessing Adebimpe Ojajuni, has highlighted the importance of reliable technology in improving transportation operations.

Ojajuni’s professional experience at the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria shows how information systems can support asset management, communication and decision-making within complex transportation environments.

Airports require accurate records of equipment and other assets, effective communication platforms and timely access to information to coordinate activities and respond to operational challenges.

Ojajuni joined the FAAN office in Abuja as a System Support Engineer in September 2018, where she became involved in the implementation and deployment of a Java-based inventory-management system.

Her responsibilities on the project included defining project scope, monitoring timelines, coordinating stakeholders, supporting deployment activities and ensuring that project deliverables were achieved.

The system was designed to strengthen the organisation’s ability to manage and track its assets, giving personnel better access to information needed for day-to-day operations.

Beyond inventory management, Ojajuni has also supported an enterprise inventory-control system and the organisation’s email infrastructure, two areas that contribute to effective communication and operational coordination.

She has coordinated application rollouts and supported end users during implementation and transition processes, helping personnel adapt to new technologies and ensuring that systems functioned as intended.

Her duties have also included diagnosing network, application and system-related problems, as well as monitoring and testing software to identify issues that could affect reliability.

Ojajuni said dependable information systems were essential to transportation organisations because they provided the information required for effective asset management and operational decisions.

“Transportation organisations need reliable information systems that show what assets are available, help teams identify problems quickly and provide accurate information for coordinating responses and making operational decisions,” she said.

Her work has required collaboration with cross-functional teams, including gathering requirements, resolving technical challenges and assisting employees in adopting technology-driven processes.

Before joining FAAN, Ojajuni gained professional experience as a Business Analyst Intern at PricewaterhouseCoopers in Lagos, where she was involved in quantitative and qualitative analysis, stakeholder communication and the preparation of structured project deliverables.

She obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science from Houdegbe North American University in 2018, after which her interest in technology, business analysis and systems management continued to shape her professional career.

Her academic achievements included receiving the university’s Entrepreneur of the Year recognition in 2018 and the Business of the Year award in 2018.

Ojajuni’s experience underscores the growing role of information-systems specialists in transportation and other critical infrastructure sectors, with her professional focus pointing towards secure and scalable systems, improved asset visibility, operational reliability and technology-driven decision-making.
