…accuses group leader of funds mismanagement
The Motor/Mechs and Technicians Association (MOMTAN) has dissociated itself from a splinter group, which recently secretly conducted an election. MOMTAN declared the result null and void.
Speaking with the media in Lagos, President of the association, Dr. Oseni Suleiman, said the leaders, which emerged at a supposedly unrecognised National Executive Council (NEC) meeting, did not represent the interest of the association hence should not be recognised by the members of the public.
He explained that the splinter group that constituted the new NEC is being led by Morufu Arowolo, a former Chairman of the association, in Lagos State, who purportedly held a secret national convention at Iwo, a suburb of Osun State, on March 31, 2022.
He noted that Arowolo had not remitted dues to the national body claiming that members are owing and won’t remit money until everyone pays. “He owes the association about N32million. In the past eight years they haven’t rendered their accounts to the National body under him.
“Our attention have been drawn to a public notice said to have been released by some group parading themselves as the newly elected National Executives of our great association,” he said.
Suleiman said “Our reaction was first published on our public programme at our national symposium held on October 15, 2021 at the Lagos Airport Hotel, Ikeja, that, Morufu Arowolo, Ismaila Alani, Adebayo Omotosho, Taiwo Phillips and others are dismissed former members of our association. ”
He advised the public not to have anything to do with them. Ostensibly to reiterate the warning that the public should distance itself from the ‘bogus’ NEC that was newly constituted by the splinter group, Suleiman said, “We have again, taken them to a Federal High Court in Lagos since March 7, 2022 (Before their purported National Congress) and the next adjourned date is June 27, 2022.”
He also asserted: “We hereby further advice the public to ignore them as anybody dealing with them is doing so at his or her own risk.
