A member of the Nnewi Royal House, Prince Tobenna Orizu, has disclosed that, contrary to insinuations in certain quarters, he remains the authentic candidate for Nnewi North/South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency of Anambra State on the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform.

There were reports of alleged defections from ADC in the state, following Prof. Kingsley Moghalu’s failure to pick the party’s presidential ticket and subsequent resignation from the party.

But restating what he said in his acceptance speech after winning the party’s primary, which was held at Swiss Park Hotel, Nnewi on June 3, Orizu told The Guardian that he is still in the race, stressing that his aspiration is hinged on five strategic imperatives for socio-economic development of the constituency.

He noted that the social welfare strategy, as well as innovative and inclusive leadership he has to offer, couldn’t be aborted by any sentiments, adding that his choice as ADC candidate was the unanimous decision of party members under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officials from Awka, the state capital.

While indicating that there was no parallel primary or rumoured defection, Orizu stated: “Some of the dignitaries that witnessed the election were Charles Igwilo, Peter Ojukwu, Mrs. Mary-Ann Okpala, Collins Enechukwu, Comrade Okolie and Kenneth Muoghalu.

“My contract with the people is to ensure political synergy and legal framework to convert resources into opportunities to optimise governance, create jobs, improve the livelihood of communities, foster rural development, boost security and, ultimately, make our constituency a destination for investments.”

Orizu, an engineer, said his diverse experiences in local and international trade, oil and maritime industry, aviation, as well as infrastructural development have equipped him for the delivery of qualitative representation to his constituents.
