This is so everyone wakes up on Christmas morning and finds their gifts at the tree. For most believers of the season, this is the best part of Christmas – the giving and receiving of gifts, which is one of the thematic preoccupations of the festive season – giving with lots of love.
However, depending on each family’s ideology of when to unwrap the gifts, most family members unwrap their gifts immediately on Christmas morning, which is absolutely appropriate, while some just wake up to the pleasant surprise but leave the gifts unboxed till the next day, the ‘Boxing Day’. Although traditionally, Boxing Day is not for immediate family members but the day the rich used to box up gifts to give to the poor. Boxing Day was traditionally a day off for servants – a day when they receive special Christmas boxes from their masters.
