The crisis rocking the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) has deepened as the Anambra State chapter has suspended its Chairman, Chief Norbert Obi yesterday, accusing him of committing impeachable offences.

Members of the State Working Committee announced the decision in a communiqué issued after an emergency meeting yesterday, saying that the Deputy Chairman of the party in Anambra Central Mr. Tony Omeligwe-Elee is now the Acting chairman.

The SWC however referred Obi to the relevant disciplinary committee set up in line with Article 22 (3) (a) of the Constitution of the party for determination of his alleged offences and immediate action. The communiqué named Obi’s offences to include failure to convene statutory meetings of the SWC and the SEC, contrary to Article 12 of the Party’s Constitution.

It also accused Obi of open denigration of members of the SWC and running the party without approved budget by the State Executive Committee (SEC) contrary to Article 12 (6) (C) of the Constitution and failure to render appropriate account of the funds accruable to the party, as well as unilateral expenditure from the party’s account contrary to Article 28 of the Constitution and so on.

Reacting to his suspension, Obi described the exercise as illegal, insisting that he never breached any law of the party and urged members to remain calm.

In a related development, APGA said the National Vice Chairman (South East) of the party; Mr. Ozo Okafor has also been suspended, even as they restated support for Victor Oye. This was contained in a communiqué issued after an emergency meeting of the South East Working Committee of the party in Awka, yesterday. The committee said Okafor suspension was as a result of his alleged involvement in anti-party activities and consequently elected Chief Smart Ihioma in his place.
