This strategic move is aimed at enhancing the company’s operational excellence in Nigeria, Africa’s largest oil-producing nation.

The announcement was made public by ExxonMobil’s Human Resources Department, following a meeting with the company’s stakeholders in March 2023. After an internal transition period, Olaniyo’s new role was formally confirmed on April 14, 2023, marking an important milestone in his career with the Fortune 500 company.

Babatunde Olaniyo, who has been with ExxonMobil Nigeria since December 2009, brings over a decade of expertise in the energy sector. He began his journey with the multinational oil giant as an Operations Personnel and has steadily risen through the ranks, demonstrating exceptional skills in operational management and facility integrity. In September 2019, Olaniyo was appointed Facility Integrity Management Coordinator, a role in which he oversaw the maintenance and safety of critical infrastructure, ensuring the smooth operation of ExxonMobil’s facilities.

In his new capacity as Operations Supervisor, Olaniyo will be responsible for overseeing the startup and commissioning of offshore gas compression and Natural Gas Liquids (NGL) facilities. His key duties will also include driving operational excellence across the company’s Nigerian operations, ensuring that integrity issues in assets are swiftly addressed, and promoting a safety culture among the workforces. Olaniyo will also manage contractor interfaces, playing a pivotal role in maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders and partners.

ExxonMobil’s commitment to Nigeria is clear, as the company continues to expand its operations in the region, a critical part of its global portfolio. The promotion of Babatunde Olaniyo underscores the company’s focus on harnessing the expertise and leadership of its Nigerian employees to drive growth and innovation.

ExxonMobil has a long-standing history of success in Nigeria, with the country serving as one of the company’s key markets in Africa. Olaniyo’s new role is expected to further strengthen ExxonMobil’s presence in the region, ensuring that the company continues to meet its operational goals while contributing to the growth of the Nigerian oil and gas sector.

This promotion highlights ExxonMobil’s ongoing investment in talent development and its commitment to ensuring the safety, integrity, and efficiency of its operations, which is vital in maintaining its leadership in the global energy industry.
