Speaking at the commissioning of the podcast studio, the National Coordinator-General of WoPU, Williams Akporeha, said the initiative would bridge the gap between government, workers and the wider public through informed discussions on policies and national development.
He said the platform would prioritise substantive policy engagement over political rhetoric, with conversations focusing on the challenges, expectations and aspirations of workers and other citizens.
Akporeha said the podcast would host labour leaders, policymakers, business executives, entrepreneurs, civil society representatives and ordinary Nigerians to encourage broader participation in discussions on workers’ welfare and national development.
He identified minimum wage implementation, employment generation and industrial relations among the issues the platform would address, alongside government policies and economic reforms affecting workers and households.
The WoPU coordinator said the growing spread of misinformation had increased the need for credible platforms to provide citizens with accurate information about government policies, programmes and development initiatives.
The organisation also pledged to expand its reach across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, the 774 local government areas and the diaspora to strengthen grassroots participation in public discourse.
However, the initiative also comes with a commitment by WoPU to support President Bola Tinubu‘s administration and Vice President Kashim Shettima, as the organisation seeks to promote awareness of the Renewed Hope Agenda and mobilise support ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Akporeha said the podcast would provide a channel for explaining government policies, presenting the administration’s achievements and addressing public concerns.
He called on government officials, trade unions, media practitioners, development partners and other stakeholders to collaborate with the organisation in promoting discussions on workers’ interests and national development.
The launch marks WoPU’s latest effort to use media engagement to promote workers’ advocacy and public policy education ahead of the next general elections.
