The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has arrested 141 suspects for drug trafficking in Yobe State.
The suspects, comprising 138 males and three females, were arrested in 17 Local Council of the state between July 2022 and June 2023.
Parading the suspects, yesterday, in Damaturu, the NDLEA State Commander, Abdulazeez Ogungboye, said the Agency secured 27 convictions, while 75 cases of drug trafficking and abuse are at various stages of trial in courts.
He said the Agency has remained committed in combating the menaces of illicit drug trafficking and abuse in the state .
According to him, about 304.5kgs of Cannabis sativa and 125.5kgs of psychotropic substances were recovered from the suspects, while 427.95 kgs of tramadol, codeine-based cough syrup, and diazepam injections were seized, last year, in the state.
Ogungboye called for the establishment of a Drug Treatment & Rehabilitation Centre (DTRC) in the state for drug addicts’ medical care and counselling.
