
Police operatives attached to Paiko Division in Paikoro Local Council of Niger State have arrested a ward head and two others for theft and receiving stolen motorcycles, as well as 26 motorcycle number plates.

Spokesperson for Niger State Police Command, Wasiu Abiodun, in a statement, said operatives acting on credible intelligence, arrested 45-year-old Hussaini Mohammed, ward head of Sabon-Danduru, Paiko; Isah Umar, 20, of Danduru village, Paiko and Hussaini Ibrahim, 25 of Bosso area, Minna.
According to him, 25-year-old Ibrahim was arrested on June 26, 2023, for suspected theft of two Jincheng motorcycles from Tudun-Fulani area of Minna on June 12, 2023, while he led the police team to Umar at Danduru village, Paiko for aiding in the theft of the motorcycles.
He said during interrogation, the two suspects confessed to the crime and claimed that they stole about four motorcycles with one Nafiu, presently at large, and gave it to one Junaidu also at large, who sold it to the ward’s head, Mohammed.
“The two suspects further confessed that they did sold the motorcycles at the rate of N200, 000 and N100, 000 to the ward head.
“The receiver (ward head) was later arrested on July 8, 2023 with the recovery of 26 motorcycle number plates and one fuel tank. The ward head confessed that he buys such motorcycles and usually retrieves the number plates before re-selling them,” Abiodun said.
The police spokesperson added that the case is under investigation at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) Minna and all suspects would be arraigned in court for prosecution as soon as investigation is concluded.
“The state’s Commissioner of Police (CP) Ogundele Ayodeji, while appreciating Nigerlites for providing useful information, which led to the arrest of the suspects had assured of a robust security measures in Minna metropolis and beyond towards ensuring a more secure environment,” Abiodun added.
