Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) has called on Yobe State Independent Electoral Commission (YOSIEC) to shift the state’s local council elections to November 2023.
IPAC Chairman, Bala Mohammed, disclosed this, yesterday, at a briefing in Damaturu.
He urged YOSIEC to fix a new date after harvest of crops to conduct the local council election.
“The 17 undersigned state chairmen of various political parties want the commission to shift the proposed election for obvious reasons,” he said.
He noted that this would allow the people to actively participate in the council poll to elect their leaders.
The IPAC boss attributed the shift to farming activities and the difficulty of transporting election materials in the state during the rainy season.
“In the interest of justice and fair play, the commission should postpone and fix a new date preferably after farmers’ harvest of crops,” he said.
