Police arrest stepmother for beating five-year-old girl to death

The police in Bauchi State have arrested a housewife, Khadija Adamu, 18, for beating her five-year-old step daughter to death for staining her cloth with stool.
  
The state’s Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad, disclosed this while rendering an account of his stewardship.
  
He said: “On September 28, at about 9:25 p.m, one Abdulaziz Adamu, 38, of Kandahar area in Bauchi, reported that one Khadija Adamu, of the same address and same date, beat up her stepdaughter, Hafsat Garba, who sustained serious body injuries in the process.
 
“Upon receiving the report, a team of detectives, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) rushed to the scene and moved the victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH), Bauchi, for medical attention, where she was certified dead by the medical doctor.
 
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly beat up the victim for staining her clothes, and she sustained various degrees of injuries in the process.
 
“During interrogation, the suspect confessed to the alleged offence. Investigation is still ongoing and the suspect will be charged to court in due course,” the CP added.
