The Rotary Club of Lekki Phase 1 has donated furniture to students of Gbara Community Senior Secondary School, Gbara-Maiyegun, Ajah, Lagos State.
Speaking during the official presentation, the club’s President, Mr. Mike Jaga, said that intervention in the area of basic education and literacy was one of the six core areas for Rotary International.
Jaga urged the pupils to take good care of the donated items as that would spur the club to do more.
“In Rotary Club, each month is dedicated to an area of service. And that is why we have decided to present this furniture to commemorate the education and literacy month of September because education is important in every aspect of our lives,” he said.
Members of the club during the programme took out time to have reading sessions with the pupils. Commenting, a past Assistant Governor of Rotary Club, Chief Kayode Adenriokun, commended the pupils for their enthusiasm to learn, encouraging them to study hard and be of good conduct.
Also, Rotarian Ifeoma Anieze Corona, advised the students to shun vices and negative influences associated with adolescence as that would distract them from the path of success.
The school’s principal, Mrs. Marian Salami, noted that the club has had a long standing relationship with the school. She thanked the club for the donation, noting that it would go a long way to help the pupils achieve greater heights in their academic pursuit.
