The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Enugu Branch, has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to address incessant construction failures, especially building collapse in the country.

The NSE, which disclosed this when its leaders paid a courtesy visit to the Enugu State Coordinator of SON, F. N. Onyeji, in his office in Enugu, also called on the regulatory agency to look for a lasting solution to the poor quality of manufactured products in the market.

The state chairman of NSE, Obealor Chigbo, while addressing the SON team, said upholding the materials standards would save engineers and manufacturers the cost of incessant buildings collapse in the state.

Obealor added that the NSE in the state was ready for any effective collaboration that would lead to checking the standards and qualities of materials before the products get to the public or end users. He called on the agency to move for modern and emerging equipment if they want to save the society from the menace.

Responding, Onyeji said the organisation has a good and quality metering standard laboratory, but lamented the lack engineering staffers to manage the laboratory effectively. He added that the organisation usually sanctions manufacturers that produce substandard products.
