TCN, ICPC move to curb corruption in civil service

The Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU) established by the Independent Corrupt Practices and other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), yesterday, in Abuja said that there was a need to instil the culture of zero tolerance against corruption in Nigeria.

Speaking at the inauguration of a Preventive Guide Handbook to educate members of staff against corrupt practices by the TCN Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit, stakeholders said preventing corruption remained sacrosanct in Nigeria.

Chairman of ICPC, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye, raised the need for government ministries and agencies to institute a policy framework that ensures effective regulation of good practice as well as measures against corrupt practices.

Represented by an official of ICPC, Mutiat Musa, Owasanoye called for training and retraining of staff on corrupt practices so they would have zero tolerance to corruption.

He noted that the effort in promoting the fight against corruption at TCN should be commended, adding that the management needed to do more to support the activities of the ACTU.

The Managing Director of the TCN, Sule Abdulaziz, said the management, in recognising the gravity of corruption, is poised to prevent and stamp out the menace in the agency.

He stated that in recognising the severity of corruption, the management established the Anti-Corruption and Transparency Unit (ACTU).

Abdulaziz, represented by the Executive Director, Human Resources and Corporate Services, TCN, Mr. Justin Ododo, said ACTU was set up to spearhead TCN’s commitment to eradicating corruption.

Acting Chairman of ACTU, Chuks Ochije, ACTUs was established to curb pervasive nature of corruption in over 445 MDAs in the country.
