Pharmacists under the umbrella advocating for the improvement and welfare of all groups in the Nigerian Pharmaceutical Sector, Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN), have celebrated Paul Osogbe Enebeli for being awarded Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science (D.SC) Honoris Causa by the University of Benin (UNIBEN) at the just concluded 48th convocation.
The celebration was held at the Government Residential Area (GRA) Ikeja, Lagos, last Friday, where a diverse committee of friends, both within and outside the pharmaceutical sphere, along with family members, came together to recognise and applaud Enebeli’s remarkable contributions to national and societal development. Enebeli is from Umuachi Afor – Ndokwa East, Delta State.
Speaking at the Luncheon party to celebrate his conferment, Enebeli said he felt very humble and short of words. He advised young pharmacists to keep on for life and never become hopeless.
“I want to encourage the institution to do more and encourage the alumni association because all over the world, the alumni association keeps the university going,” he said.
During the celebration, the Chairman Board of Fellows of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (BOF PSN), Dr. Joel E.B. Adagadzu, showered praise on Enebeli, describing him as a commendable and dedicated pharmacist. Adagadzu highlighted Enebeli’s qualities, emphasising his commitment to friendship, philanthropy, and hard work.
Adagadzu expressed his delight, stating, “He is such a wonderful person, a very admirable, very committed pharmacist. Somebody who has a player for friendship, a player for doing good at all times. He works very hard. He associates with people, with no discrimination. This is somebody who has held so many positions and because of his past records, the University of Benin honoured him. He is truly deserving of that award and I am happy for him. We have come here to felicitate with him. We urge him to continue to do well and do good so that many more awards will come to him and I know that it’s just the beginning.”
Adding his voice to the celebration, a member of the caretaker committee of the University of Benin Alumni Association, Abu-Uwesu Yakubu, lauded Enebeli’s service to the university. He likened Enebeli to someone who not only refrains from contaminating the river, but actively contributes to making it cleaner and better for those who follow. He said, “Paul is one person who has put in everything to serve the University of Benin. There is this saying that when you pass a river or a well, do not spit into it because you may likely be thirsty when you are coming back. That is the person that Paul Enebeli is, instead of spitting into the river, he made the river cleaner. He made the river better for those coming behind to drink.”
Barrister Chukwudi Enebeli, Dr. Enebeli’s son, shared heartfelt commendations for his father, emphasising his commitment to giving back to society. Reflecting on his father’s leadership during his tenure as the president of Ndokwa National Union (NNU), Chukwudi praised his father’s passion and dedication, stating, “I have known my dad all my life and I must commend him for what he represents. He has always believed in giving back to society, when he was the president of Ndokwa National Union (NNU), his words were always, ‘I want to help my people.’ He is someone that is passionate and has trained all of us right. He always told us that knowledge is power and that we should continue reading that at the end of the day, it will pay off.”
