The voice-over industry in Africa is experiencing a significant surge, driven by a combination of technological advancements, increased demand for diverse content, and the emergence of talented individuals from different parts of the continent shaping the auditory landscape and hitting different milestones. Ahmed Olalekan, a top voice-over talent and an On-Air-Personality in Nigeria, stands as an illustrious figure, both revered and respected in this space. With a career spanning over a decade, Ahmed has not only carved a niche for himself but has also been instrumental in showing the world the possibilities and unprecedented heights the African voice-over industry can hit.

Born and raised in Nigeria, Ahmed’s journey into the world of media began in Port Harcourt, Rivers state. In 2009, he embarked on his media career as a broadcast professional with Treasure FM Port Harcourt, laying the foundation for what would become an illustrious career.

Under the mentorship of the late Alabo Tonye Graham Douglas, a broadcast guru, Ahmed honed his skills as a radio presenter. It was during these formative years that he was introduced to the world of professional voice-overs, thanks to the guidance of Media icon and trainer, Wenigha Jackson, fondly known as the family man on radio.

Ahmed’s multifaceted career also encompasses roles as a PR professional and direct copywriter. His writing prowess has crafted advertising copies for esteemed clients, including Globacom, DKT International, BetKing, RiteFood, Hallabet, and many more.

Over the years, he has recorded an impressive portfolio, comprising over 15,000 commercial scripts. His contributions to the industry did not go unnoticed, as evidenced by his nomination for Best Radio Presenter and Best News Reader at the Bayelsa Media Awards in 2016. More recently, he clinched the prestigious Voice-Over Artist of the Year accolade at the Icon Noble Awards in 2022.

Ahmed’s academic journey, which includes a B.Sc. in Mass Communication and an M.Sc. in Public Relations and Advertising, underscores his commitment to excellence. Additionally, he boasts multiple certifications in broadcasting, multimedia production, and voice acting.

One cannot discuss Ahmed’s career without acknowledging the extensive list of high-profile voice projects he has undertaken. From global giants like Google, Netflix, and Samsung to renowned Nigerian brands such as MTN, Coca-Cola, Nestle, and Fidelity Bank, Ahmed’s voice has graced campaigns for some of the biggest names worldwide.

Presently, he is devoting his energy to “Project Eden,” a voice-over master course designed to empower both established and budding voice talents for success on Upwork. His aspirations extend beyond personal accomplishments; he envisions a future where African children can aspire to become voice-over talents with pride.

When asked about the inspiration behind his career, Ahmed’s response is candid, “There was no inspiration. Life pushed me in this direction, and I’m grateful to God for it. It’s been a fantastic journey.” His journey took an unexpected turn during his university years when an assistant lecturer recognized his vocal talent and encouraged him to pursue a special broadcast media training at the Alpha Institute of Broadcasting and Communications in Port Harcourt. This decision was a pivotal moment in Ahmed’s life, setting him on a path of unparalleled success.

Like any journey to the top, he has faced his share of challenges. He navigated the familiar struggles that confront young professionals aiming for the pinnacle of their careers. However, his resilience and unwavering commitment propelled him to new heights.

When asked about his greatest accomplishment, Ahmed’s response reflects his towering achievements, “Holding the title of Africa’s Highest Earning Voice-Over Talent on Upwork within just a year is a monumental feat.”

His advice to aspiring professionals in the field is sage wisdom, “Don’t let the fleeting fame intoxicate you. Stay grounded, keep learning, and continue networking for professional growth. Always strive to excel because you never know when that big break will come, and it’s crucial to be prepared.”

Ahmed’s personal philosophy reflects his journey, “All hard work brings profit, and faith in God is a major key to success.”
