Ahead of International Women’s Day (IWD) celebration, Fame Foundation has expressed concern over physical and sexual violence meted to about 245 million women and girls across the world.

Executive Director of the foundation, Aderonke Ogunleye, at a press conference in Abuja, also decried inadequate funding of gender equality initiatives in the world.

According to her, it is unfortunate that an estimated 110 million girls and young women may remain out of school by 2030, even as harmful practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation still persist in several countries.

The rights activist called for concerted effort to address the challenges faced by women in Nigeria and other parts of the world.

“There are still many challenges to be addressed, but they are not insurmountable. It is more important than ever that we stand firm to champion the rights of every woman and girl by investing more to accelerate progress,” she added.
