Renewing your Nigerian passport is a simple process that allows you to continue travelling without interruption. Whether your passport has expired, is about to expire, or has been lost or damaged, this guide will walk you through the renewal process, including the necessary requirements and steps to complete your application efficiently.

The fee structure for the passports is as follows:
32-page passport (5-year validity): ₦35,000
64-page passport (10-year validity): ₦70,000

For foreign applicants:
32-page passport (5-year validity): $130
64-page passport (10-year validity): $230

1) Renewal Requirements Document Based on Passport Status

Expired Validity

  • Application Letter.
  • Passport Booklet.
  • Photocopy of Data Page of Passport.
  • Acknowledgement Slip and Evidence of Payment.

Unexpired Validity

  • Application Letter.
  • Passport Booklet.
  • Evidence of the maiden name.
  • If Validity is more than Six (6) Months, Applicant should state reason(s).
  • Photocopy of Data Page of Passport.
  • Acknowledgement Slip and Evidence of Payment.

How to Apply

  • From the application portal dashboard, click on “Apply for Renewal/Reissue”
  • Verify your NIN (enter your date of birth for second-level checks)
  • Provide your current passport details and review data comparison against your NIN data
  • Select your processing centre and booklet size (32 pages or 64 pages)
  • Upload your ICAO-compliant picture
  • Review your details (these are your NIMC records). Ensure that you provide a valid email address for further communication
  • Provide your contact address and next of kin information
  • Upload supporting documents (these are based on your application type)
  • Review and submit your application. Then proceed to make payment and book an appointment for biometric enrollment

Note: Applicants are required to appear at the chosen Immigration Office for biometric data capture.

2) Requirements Document Based on Exhausted Visa page

  • Application Letter.
  • Passport Booklet.
  • Photocopies of the Data Page.
  • Acknowledgement slip and evidence of payment.

  • Verify your NIN (enter your date of birth for second-level checks)
  • Provide your current passport details and review data comparison against your NIN data

  • Application Letter stating circumstances of Damage.
  • Damaged Passport Booklet.
  • Photocopies of Data Page.
  • An Affidavit from a Magistrate or High Court of damaged passport deposed to by applicant.
  • Acknowledgement Slip and evidence of payment.

  • Verify your NIN (enter your date of birth for second-level checks)
  • Provide your current passport details and review data comparison against your NIN data
  • Select your processing center and booklet size (32 pages or 64 pages)

4) Requirements Document for Loss Passport

  • Application Letter stating circumstances/place of loss.
  • Extract of Police Report of Lost Passport.
  • In case of loss due to a fire outbreak, a Fire Service Report is mandatory.
  • Acknowledgement slip and evidence of payment.

*NB: Where a passport is declared lost and reissued if recovered, the holder shall immediately notify the Nigeria Immigration Service of recovery and submit the passport for cancellation.
