Flooding has again rendered one of the major bridges in Taraba State impassable. Located in Mayo-Kam, a community in Bali Local Council of the state, the bridge collapsed following a heavy six-hour rainfall last week.

The bridge connects multiple communities, including Gembu in Takum, Baisa, and Gashaka. When this report was filed, travellers and transporters were stranded, forcing them to seek alternative routes.

Local authorities and residents have called on the state government to address the situation urgently. Highlighting the impact on daily travel and the transportation of goods, they pleaded with the government and other well-to-do individuals to rescue them by putting the destroyed bridge in proper shape.

The affected communities, who also raised concerns about the upcoming resumption of academic activities, said that the bridge, if not urgently fixed, could restrict the movement of schoolchildren.

A similar disaster had happened earlier in the Namnai area of Gassol Local Council of the state, where floods washed away a vital bridge connecting Taraba’s capital to Benue State and other parts of southern Nigeria.
