
Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has reiterated his administration’s commitment to combat violent extremism, as well as terrorism financing in the state.
He said this would create a peaceful environment conducive to the development of the state.
Kefas said this in Jalingo, the state capital, through his Chief of Staff, Jeji Williams, at a two-day workshop organized by the Civil Society Legislative Advocacy Center (CISLAC), with support from the GIABA – ECOWAS Commission.
The workshop which focused on early detection, reporting, prevention, and proactive responses to violent extremism and countering terrorism financing, was observed to have heralded the presence of participants from security agencies, media, and traditional and religious institutions, among others
His administration, according to the governor, will leave no stone unturned in its efforts to address the evolving nature of insecurity in the state.
While commending CISLAC and the GIABA – ECOWAS Commission for their initiative in raising awareness about countering terrorism financing among the communities and people of the State, he viewed the exercise as a significant step in addressing a menace that has plagued the society for some time.
He urged participants to engage actively in the workshop, stressing the importance of community feedback in the fight against these threats.
The governor who took participants down the memory lane on the advent of terrorism in Nigeria, called for collaborative efforts to flush it out from the country, particularly from the North-East geopolitical zone of the country.
Earlier, the Project Manager, of CISLAC, Jimoh Abubakar, outlined the workshop’s objectives, which according to him, include fostering conversations at the grassroots and community levels on countering terrorism financing.
Abubakar noted that terrorism financing often occurs at the community level, sometimes unnoticed, which he said often undermines peace and security across the country.
He said the is geared at supporting stakeholders in understanding the dangers of terrorism financing and its operations within communities, to find lasting solutions to combat it.
