The Lions Club District 404B2, yesterday, hosted students of the Vocational Training School of the Blind, Oshodi, Lagos, to a dinner party and also donated gift items to the school.

This, according to the club, was part of its international core missions to serve and advocate for the blind and visually impaired persons. The dinner party, tagged, “Sight and Sound of Flavour,” was also said to be a means of creating more awareness on World Sight Day being celebrated yearly in October.

The District Governor, Tolulope Senbanjo, said that the event was more than just a meal, as it is a sensory experience that raises awareness, fosters empathy, celebrates ‘sability’ and not disability. He further said that the donated items would help to relieve burden and make tangible differences in the students’ lives.

Also speaking, the Committee Chairperson, Kehinde Orejoko, applauded the students for continually showing resilience and strength while navigating through a world that is sometimes not accommodating to their needs.

“With this programme, we hope to foster understanding, compassion and connection as well as promote inclusivity and show that everyone deserves to be seen, heard and valued,” Orejoko said.

The Acting Principal of the school, Joseph Oladokun, while appreciating the gesture, noted that the gift items would help to relieve cost amid the hardship in the country.

He sought for more assistance from the public, stressing that the school, which is a non-governmental organisation, operates on low fund that is barely enough to cater for the students.

Oladokun also pleaded for sponsorship for the students as some of them have desire to further their education and also scored good grades in some external examinations.
