Jigawa police arrest 22 for robbery, rescue kidnap victim

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested 22 suspects involved in armed robbery, vandalism, cattle rustling, and other crimes across the state.

According to a statement from the state’s Police PPRO, DSP Lawal Shiisu Adam, the arrested individuals are Umar Haruna (28, Yan Gayami village), Nura Musa (25, Birniwa town), Mustapha Ado (20, Birniwa town), Naziru Mohd (18, Unguwa Uku, Kano), Junaidi Mohd (17, Magama Uku village), and others from various locations in Jigawa, Kano, Benue, and Katsina states.

The police recovered stolen items, including Bajaj and Lifan motorcycles, copper wire, Tecno handsets, a cow, sheep, ram, laptop, and other tools.

During questioning, the suspects confessed to their crimes and will face prosecution in court.

In a separate incident, the police responded to a distress call from Malam Madori Division regarding a kidnapping. Armed men had abducted Alhassan Audu from Tudun Ghana Quarters. A patrol team engaged the criminals, forcing them to abandon the victim, who was rescued unharmed. Efforts are underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

In a related development, a distress call was received at Malam Madori Division reporting that unknown armed men had stormed the residence of one Alhassan Audu, ‘m’, of Tudun Ghana Quarters, Malam Madori LGA, and kidnapped him.

Upon receiving the call, a patrol team led by the DPO promptly rushed to the scene and engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel. During the process, the hoodlums were forced to abandon the victim and flee, and the victim was rescued unhurt.

Efforts are being intensified to apprehend the fleeing culprits.
