Alliance for All Labour Party Professionals and Stakeholders (AALPS) has raised serious concerns over what it alleged to be the destabilisation of the Labour Party by its 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
He warned that his actions were threatening the party’s future and could lead to catastrophic electoral consequences in the 2027 general elections.
In a statement issued by National Convener of AALPS, Dr Blessing Elaigwu, the group expressed dissatisfaction with alleged Obi’s role in fostering division and litigation within the party.
It accused Obi of prioritising personal ambitions over the unity and progress of the LP. The Alliance criticised Obi for allegedly backing an attempt to replace the legitimate leadership of the party, led by Julius Abure, with his allies during a disputed stakeholders’ meeting in Umuahia last year.
Elaigwu stated: “This persistent infighting has stagnated the Labour Party’s growth at a time when other political parties are already strategising for 2027. Peter Obi’s actions are weakening the foundation of the party and disappointing millions of Nigerians who invested their trust in him.”
