Association pledges support for academic excellence at UNIBEN

The University of Benin Alumni Association (UBAA) has reaffirmed its commitment to academic excellence, infrastructural development, and improved welfare for students and staff of their alma mater to enhance productivity and national growth.

This was contained in a communiqué issued at the end of its 100th Council Meeting, held at the Senate Chambers, Ugbowo Campus, of the university recently.

Its President Worldwide, Emmanuel Oriazuwa Esq., congratulated Prof. Edoba B. Omoregie (SAN) on his appointment as vice chancellor and assuredhim of the alumni’s full support in implementing his five-point agenda.

They include sustaining and improving the university’s reputation while expanding postgraduate training programmes; establishing a hub for short and certificate courses to equip students with practical skills; enhancing student and staff welfare through modern facilities, regular training, and promotions backed by financial support; upgrading university structures and improving environmental sustainability through tree planting, among others.

Others included promoting harmony between the administration, staff unions, and student bodies.
   
It emphasised the role of alumni in advancing the university’s growth, urging all stakeholders to support its vision for sustainable development.
 
UBAA urged the Federal Government to pay outstanding arrears owed to university staff to prevent further industrial actions and academic disruptions.
 
The association also commended Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, for his efforts in curbing insecurity, calling for more decisive measures to ensure lasting peace and security for residents and businesses.
