Experts discuss learning transformation at confab

In celebration of its 70th anniversary, the Corona Schools Trust Council (CSTC), recently hosted an educators’ roundtable, bringing together experts and policymakers to discuss global educational transformation and its implication for the country.

The event, which held at Muson Centre, Onikan, Lagos, provided an opportunity for critical stakeholders to deliberate on the way forward for the sector. In his keynote address titled: ‘Re-Set: Global perspectives on educational transformation, lessons and insights for Nigeria’s educational future’, former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Peter Okebukola, harped on the need to leverage technology to transform the country’s educational system.

The former NUC boss and Emeritus Professor of Science at Lagos State University (LASU), pointed out that digital revolution is the most prominent factor influencing education worldwide

“Technology has transformed how students learn, how teachers teach, and how educational content is delivered. We must leverage these changes to reposition Nigeria’s education system,” he stated.

Okebukola outlined key drivers of educational transformation to include global and national development plans, technological advancements, curriculum re-engineering, bridging infrastructural gaps, strengthening teacher capacity and inclusivity in education.

In her opening remarks, Chief Executive Officer of Corona Schools, Mrs Adeyoyin Adeshina, who recalled the institution’s remarkable journey from a single school to eight locations across Nigeria, emphasised the need for improved education policies, better funding and digital learning tools to drive meaningful transformation in the sector.

She also restated the school’s commitment to giving back to communities through teachers training and scholarship programmes. The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education in Lagos State, Jamiu Alli-Balogun, commended the school for its legacy of academic excellence.
