Rival groups agree to end unrest, restore peace in Kano

Despite political differences and interests, leaders of various rival youth groups have resolved to bury their hatchets and build a united front to restore peace and development in Kano.

The group, drawn from different political backgrounds, sectionalism, and interest groups, agreed to support concerned authorities to fight crimes, phone snatching, and other criminalities in the ancient city.

The leadership of the groups, including local hunters, local thugs, and street boys, assembled at the instance of AA Zaura Foundation, also committed to joining hands with the government to end political thuggery and youth restiveness.

At a special forum on Saturday, the convener of the peace dialogue and founder of AA Zaura Foundation, AbdulKarim Abdulsalam Zaura, explained the intention was to foster peace and end security threats among youths.

Zaura, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Kano Central senatorial candidate in the 2023 general elections, expressed worry over needless killings arising from rival clashes and crimes involving the younger generation in Kano.

He emphasized that bringing together the strong voices among the groups is a bold step to chart a new beginning of a new dawn and a better future for youths who are presently idle.

Zaura said beyond the lead campaign for a peaceful atmosphere, he would now champion a support solution and entrepreneurship skills to promote meaningful means of livelihood to the teeming youths.

The convener reminded that the engagement drew participants who cut across political parties, pointing out that the overall interest was to stimulate productive energy in Kano youth and foster economic viability in the city.
The philanthropist stressed his foundation’s readiness to partner with corporate bodies, individuals, institutions, or authorities to gainfully engage the youths to build a sustainable future.

“The gathering is not a partisan or a political gathering. It’s a gathering of Kano people. The youth and every single person you find here represent the spirit of Kano. The spirit of Kano is peace.

“Every single person you see here has thousands of youths behind him. These are different factions of the Daba people in Kano and the hunters in Kano. Every single one here has his people. So this is a leadership that will discuss the possible way to make Kano State peaceful.

“Peace gathering is a step to stopping any faction of Daba in Kano. The youth accept it. We have a plan for every single person to learn a trade. We have a plan for every single person that has dropped out of school to go back to school. Assist everyone who knows the art and science of trade with capital,” Zaura said.

In their separate remarks, leaders of the rival groups commended the Zaura Foundation for the initiative and pledged total commitment to unite among themselves to end conflict in the city.

They urged the government to support the majority of them who are jobless with means of sustainability and rehabilitation.
