Police arrest suspect for blackmailing 30 men using nude video calls in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old man, Malik Opeyemi, for allegedly blackmailing 30 victims between January and May 2025.

Opeyemi, who was apprehended by detectives from the Area F Command, is accused of posing as a woman online to lure unsuspecting men into making nude video calls, which he subsequently used to extort money.

The suspect was arrested on May 16, 2025, in Oyo State following a complaint from one of his victims, and was transferred to Lagos for further investigation.

According to the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, Opeyemi had obtained over N4 million from his victims during the five-month operation.

He allegedly demanded N25,000 from each victim as a “subscription fee” to access nude and intimate content.

Detectives recovered two Android phones, an Itel and a Samsung, during the arrest. Forensic analysis of the devices reportedly uncovered explicit images of numerous victims.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, assured the public of the command’s commitment to combating cybercrime and protecting residents from digital exploitation.

He urged citizens to exercise caution in their online interactions and to report any suspicious activity to the authorities. “We remain dedicated to ensuring offenders face justice,” CP Jimoh stated.
