NSCDC recovers stolen petroleum products in Badagry

Recovered yellow kegs with petroleum products

The Lagos State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Badagry Division, has recovered stolen petroleum products during a raid on the hideouts of suspected vandals.

The recovery, conducted on Monday, May 26, 2025, at about 4:50 p.m., followed routine surveillance and patrol in the area.

Spokesperson for the command, Oluwaseun Abolurin, confirmed the development in a statement yesterday. He explained that the operation was based on credible intelligence provided by residents of Badagry, which helped thwart the organised efforts of the vandals to smuggle the stolen petroleum products into neighbouring countries.

Abolurin noted that the suspects fled upon sighting NSCDC operatives. He further disclosed that items recovered during the patrol, led by Chief Superintendent of Corps Ekunola Gbenga, included 70 yellow kegs of 25 litres, one 15-litre keg, a 10-litre keg, six five-litre kegs, 250 large plastic bottles, 70 small plastic bottles, and three small sacks of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). Other items seized included a motorcycle seat and one tank.

Reacting to the operation, the State Commandant of the NSCDC, Mr Adedotun Keshinro, commended the personnel involved, describing the seizure as evidence of the command’s zero-tolerance stance against oil pipeline vandalism, siphoning of petroleum products, and other forms of economic sabotage.

Keshinro stressed that the recovery aligns with the efforts of the Commandant-General of the NSCDC, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, to combat the activities of economic saboteurs, vandals, and oil thieves undermining the nation’s downstream sector.
