Troops recover 60 IEDs, neutralise Boko Haram/ISWAP fighters in Borno

Troops of Operation HADIN KAI have uncovered a large cache of improvised explosive devices (IEDs), eliminated multiple insurgents, and recovered weapons and logistics equipment in a series of coordinated operations, as part of an effort to dismantle terrorist strongholds and restore lasting peace in Nigeria’s North-East.

According to a statement by Reuben Kovangiya, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Theatre Command Operation HADIN KAI, the latest breakthroughs occurred during recent operations conducted across parts of Borno State.

The statement said that on July 3, 2025, troops conducting clearance operations around the general areas of Marte and Dikwa uncovered about 60 heavily primed IEDs hidden at a bridge connecting the two communities.

It added that the explosives were believed to have been planted by Boko Haram/ISWAP members with the aim of targeting critical infrastructure and causing mass casualties.

It further noted that the timely discovery prevented what could have been a devastating disaster.

In a separate operation, troops on a fighting patrol around Fulatari in Gubio Local Government Area apprehended a terrorist fighter.

“They also recovered an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and a large quantity of ammunition, disrupting plans for future attacks.

“Simultaneously, another combat unit operating around Mussini in Ngala Local Government Area engaged a group of terrorists in a gun battle.

“The insurgents, unable to withstand the military’s superior firepower, fled in disarray. The troops, in pursuit, recovered AK-47 rifles, motorcycles, jerrycans of premium motor spirit, terrorist uniforms, and other vital items used to support terrorist activities in the region,” the statement reads.

The Army also said that in Salekwa, Mafa Local Government Area, troops again made contact with insurgents, killing some during the encounter.

“Following the clash, they recovered AK-47 rifles, magazines, and the body of a neutralised terrorist while combing the area,” it added.

The Army high command has commended the gallant troops for their resilience and effectiveness in executing their duties.

The operations, which continue with support from the Air Component Command and other security agencies, form part of a strategy to secure the region, support civil authorities, and encourage the resumption of socio-economic activities across the North-East.
