Ohanaeze lists lessons leaders must learn from Buhari

Igbo apex group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, yesterday, said the death of the former President, Muhammadu Buhari, should be a great lesson to leaders to leave legacies, saying the country had lost a brave soldier.

In a statement, the National Deputy President of Ohanaeze, Okechukwu Isiguzoro, noted that the South-East has joined the nation to mourn the death of the ex-president, noting that the Igbo people would continue to adhere to their customary norms and traditions that compel them to show respect for the dead, irrespective of the legacies they might have left, stressing that the Igbo were mourning our departed former President.

“We cannot forget that Nnamdi Kanu, a figure of immense significance to the Igbo people was arrested not once but twice under Buhari’s regime and remains unjustly detained to this day. Such actions reflect a broader pattern of oppression that has persisted and will not be easily forgotten,” Isiguzoro said.

Isiguzoro said that the systematic victimisation experienced by the Igbo populace, often exacerbated by the misuse of state apparatus under Buhari’s leadership, could not be overlooked, asking why the Federal Government remained silent in the face of the horrors perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen and militias against innocent Igbo.

The statement reads: “The apex Igbo socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, respectfully extends its condolences to the Northern leadership, the immediate family of the late former President and Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on this solemn occasion.

“The passing of President Buhari must serve as a moment for reflection and introspection for those in positions of power and imperative for politicians to grasp that power is ephemeral, and the legacies they leave behind will ultimately be judged by history.

“As we navigate the complexities of life and death, we, the Igbo people, adhere to our customary norms and traditions that compel us to show respect for the deceased, irrespective of the legacies they may have left behind”.
