A support group within the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Asiwaju Mandate Group (AMG), has pledged to secure over one million votes for President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 presidential election.

According to the group, mobilisation of supporters across the 18 local council areas of Ondo State to achieve the target is already ongoing.

While meeting with members in Akure, the state capital, on Wednesday, the Director-General of AMG, Mr. Muyiwa Asagunla, stated that the group was committed to ensuring Tinubu secures more than 90 per cent of the total votes cast in the state.

Asagunla explained that AMG was established to attract influential politicians from other parties into the APC fold, emphasising that many have already expressed readiness to join.

He said, “We formed AMG. AMG was formed mainly to bring together as many notable politicians as possible from Ondo State and other parties. We have invited them to join AMG, and they are now ready to join.

“Secondly, when you benefit from a system, what you can do is to call people to come and join you. AMG is committed, through the efforts of the Honourable Minister of the Interior, Mr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to ensuring that the people of Ondo State benefit massively from the Federal Government’s initiatives, which are doing good. In terms of employment, I have an idea of how many have been employed in the fire service, in immigration, or in the NSCDC from Ondo State.

“The way we run AMG is that we have structure. As I mentioned earlier, AMG was inaugurated on March 8, 2004, with only 26 people. We now have over 9,000 members in Ondo State. All our structures have been very much intact. We have about two million voters in Ondo State, and I tell you that we will work and deliver over one million votes for President Tinubu in Ondo State in 2027.”

Another leader of the group and representative of the state on the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Mr. Otito Atikase, said the group remained focused on ensuring Tinubu wins the 2027 election in the state.

“Our target is to go beyond what we delivered before now. Our target is to have almost 90 per cent of the votes in Ondo. To achieve 90 per cent of the votes, it will be a result of hard work. So, we are going to sit down, map out a strategy, and ensure that we do the right thing, that we distribute those votes. Also, in due course, when all of us are in Ondo State, you will see the likelihood of that result because we will be campaigning everywhere to ensure that we have the votes that match our focus,” he said.

According to Atikase, Tinubu had performed well in the South-West, particularly in Ondo State, in terms of infrastructure and the welfare of citizens.

“For instance, you agree with me that no civil servants are going on strike any longer. Because we have enough money in the states, nobody is going on strike. The civil servants collect their money. So that is a practical issue. Look at the Lagos-Calabar highway. Do you know the economic implications of that road? You may not know. Until you know the road is on the ground. The Ore-Ondo road dualization has claimed the lives of many prominent people from Ondo State. The road project is ongoing; development is going on everywhere,” he said.
