Operatives of the Cross River State Police Command have foiled a kidnapping attempt in Calabar South, arresting three suspects and recovering firearms.
Police spokesperson SP Irene Ugbo said the incident occurred when officers from Uwanse Division, acting on a tip-off, intercepted a gang attempting to abduct one Nkereuwem Peter, 38, at his Eneobong Avenue residence.
The suspects reportedly opened fire on sighting the police, sparking a gun duel that led to their arrest, while others escaped.
Those in custody are Henry Efa Otu, 24, Lawrence Ita Inyang, 46, and Umoh Ekpo, 46 — all of Efut Effioene in Calabar. Recovered items include two locally made pistols and a live cartridge.
Commissioner of Police Rashid Afegbua warned criminal gangs to desist from unlawful activities, urging residents to provide timely intelligence to aid security operations. He said efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing accomplices for prosecution.
