The Katsina State Government has commended Nigerian Army troops for a successful operation that led to the killing of seven armed bandits and the recovery of four motorcycles in the Kankara Local Government Area of the state.
Addressing journalists in Katsina on Friday, the Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasir Mu’azu, said the operation took place on Thursday, August 21, in Baba community after credible intelligence revealed the movement of criminal groups terrorising farming communities in the area.
“Acting swiftly, troops engaged the bandits in a decisive operation, neutralising seven of them while the rest fled with gunshot wounds. Four motorcycles used for their operations were also recovered during the mission,” Mu’azu stated.
He explained that the encounter lasted for over two hours and formed part of wider military actions targeting criminal hideouts in frontline local government areas of the state.
According to him, the operation is designed to restore peace and enable farmers to carry out their activities during the rainy season.
The commissioner praised the professionalism and resilience of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies.
“Katsina State Government, through the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, acknowledges the courage and professionalism of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies working tirelessly to protect the people of the State,” he said.
Mu’azu also assured that the state government would continue to provide the necessary support to strengthen the fight against banditry.
“As a government, we remain committed to supporting security agencies with logistics, intelligence sharing, and community-based collaborations to sustain the momentum against banditry. We assure citizens that every effort is being made to secure lives and livelihoods across Katsina State,” he added.
Calling on residents, particularly those in rural areas, to partner with security agencies, Mu’azu urged communities to provide timely intelligence that could aid operations. “Together, we will defeat these criminal elements and restore lasting peace to our state,” he affirmed.
